Position Summary:
To function as a member of the Endoscopy team in providing quality care for the patient by assisting physicians and nurses with procedures, providing appropriate instrumentation and supplies, and ensuring appropriate decontamination and reprocessing of equipment.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
HS Diploma/GED
Paper Diploma Required
BLS (w/30 days)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1 years of experience in/with working as a Nursing Assistant and/or
Previous experience with flexible endoscopes
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.

Essential Functions:
Provides assistance to physicians during endoscopic procedures.
Maintains knowledge of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.
Maintains knowledge of pulmonary procedures.
Assists with handling endoscopic instrumentation during procedures as requested.
Provides assistance with procedures involving patients of all ages.
Maintains knowledge of equipment used in the department, and physician preferences (scope size, type of forceps, etc.).
Ensures patient safety by utilizing equipment properly and maintaining clean/sterile technique as indicated.
Assists nursing staff with patient care and customer satisfaction.
Accepts direction from Lead Nurse.
Assists with patient documentation as assigned.
Assists with patient monitoring, alerting nurses and/or physician of any changes in patient condition during procedures.
Assists with patient transport within the department and institution.
Obtains vital signs as requested.
Assist with narcotic count/waste as requested.
Participates in activities to promote customer satisfaction.
Performs appropriate decontamination and reprocessing of endoscopic equipment.
Maintains knowledge of department equipment.
Cleans and disinfects scopes and other equipment to prevent cross-contamination and promote patient safety.
Utilizes care when handling equipment to prevent downtime of the equipment and prevent costly repairs.
Alerts the Lead RN and/or Nurse Manager of equipment problems promptly.
Safely monitors and mixes high level disinfectant solutions.
Monitors expiration of monitoring strips associated with scope management.
Implements scope management program.
Performs quality improvement activities within the department and maintains inventory of equipment and accessories.
Maintain scope inventory and scope labeling.
Maintains adequate department inventory of patient supplies
Ensures adequate inventory is available but not overstocking unnecessarily.
Works with department management and vendors to evaluate equipment prices to promote cost effective healthcare.
Assist with quality improvement activities within the department.Participates on a department task team.
Answers phone by third ring.
