Senior Engineering Manager - Systems Integration Team Lead (Onsite)

Role Description:

The Mission Systems Engineering Autonomous Mission Engineered Solutions Department (AMES) is seeking a Sr Engineering Manager, to provide engineering leadership within the Mission Systems Autonomy Launched Effects business area. The successful candidate will have a passion and the drive to understand business area strategies and how new business opportunities may contribute to these strategies to grow the portfolios. This role would be responsible for collaborating with program management and business development to understand the total business perspective, prioritize and make critical decisions regarding potential business opportunities to position Collins Aerospace for growth within the autonomous unmanned market. This includes business opportunities for development, prototype, and subsequent demonstration of UAS related systems such as autonomous systems and behaviors, advanced communications management, vehicle navigation and control, and other advanced system technologies. This position will be a key member of our Launched Effects business, guiding the Integration, Verification, Validation, and Demonstrations of our RapidEdgeTM branded Launched Effects Medium and Short-Range programs.

Additionally, as applicable, this position will also participate in portfolio pursuit and order capture opportunities, leveraging existing Collins Aerospace product baselines and development of new technologies to contribute to and create winning program proposals.

This position may require travel (up to 15%). Position requires that candidate has a final US DoD security clearance, or ability to obtain a final security clearance (US Citizenship is required) to access classified information.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates understanding of business portfolio strategies and plans to grow unmanned systems and advanced technologies business areas.

  • Makes AMES department decisions and conveys priorities regarding resources (staff, budget) for portfolio pursuits.

  • Reviews and presents pursuit status and recommendations to portfolio leadership in support of long-term staffing / hiring plans.

  • Develops and demonstrates use of metrics to track and monitor pursuit/program status and decisions.

  • Liaises between business development and strategy, program management, product-line engineers, hardware engineers, software engineers, and customers to understand content and priority of pursuit opportunities.

  • Displays organizational savvy, thriving on a multi-disciplinary team to bridge gaps between business portfolios and capabilities in various domains across multiple Collins Aerospace business units.

  • Uses portfolio vision to think beyond the immediate situation, explore multiple potential paths, and adapt decision-making style and thought process based on the situational circumstances.

  • Demonstrates pursuit and order capture knowledge and how process decisions (i.e., Decision Points) contribute to staffing, funding, and planning decisions, prioritization and implementation of the functional strategy.

  • Leads and commits staff and resources to support business opportunity prioritization and pursuit execution.

  • Ensures staffing commitments are contained in the staffing center tool.

  • Leads and coordinates program level cost estimates during the bid and proposal cycle.

  • Leads and coordinates the development of technical proposals during the bid and proposal cycle.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints in support of early decision point decisions (i.e., Gate Reviews, Design Reviews).

  • Demonstrates ability to adapt decision-making style based on the situational circumstances.

  • Uses personal experience and best practices to identify issues, potential problems, and risk.

  • Demonstrates experience estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule, and risk in support of pursuit/program metrics.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Demonstrated pursuit and order capture experience.

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience integrating, demonstrating, and deploying complex Systems comprised of embedded SW/HW and User Experience Validation

  • Knowledge of the RapidEdgeTM Investment Strategies and 2 years of experience leading development programs supporting the US DoD Launched Effects Strategy for the US Army and other agencies.

  • Domain knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Network Communications, Datalinks and Platform Integration.

  • Knowledge of Open Systems and Software architectures.

  • Demonstrated experience using tools such as SAP, Staffing Center, and metrics tracking spreadsheets.

  • Experience with business portfolio strategies and how pursuits align to these strategies to build new business for Collins Aerospace.

  • Experience working effectively in highly collaborative environments, a demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and lead technical efforts spanning multiple stakeholders and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers.

  • This position requires an individual that can perform with minimal direct supervisory support. As such the candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The ability to coordinate several complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules is a must.

  • Background and/or knowledge of technologies within the unmanned systems and advanced business portfolios. These include, but are not limited to:

  • UAS Command and Control Systems

  • Autonomy Algorithms

  • Flight Management Systems

  • Sensor Fusion / Sensor Systems

  • Weapons Systems

  • Human / machine interface

  • Information Assurance and Cyber Threat Considerations

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
