The position of Community Development Director for the City of Springfield requires a dynamic leader with a passion for community empowerment, strategic vision, and proven managerial skills. The Community Development Director will oversee a diverse range of responsibilities, including budget administration, redevelopment projects, community engagement initiatives, and program implementation. Functional areas include Building Regulations, Code Enforcement, Planning & Zoning, and Neighborhood Impact, which includes the implementation of the City's entitlement programming.

 

Examples of Duties

 

  • Administer the department's budget.
  • Coordinate impactful redevelopment and revitalization projects.
  • Cultivate positive relationships and lead engagement efforts with community organizations and neighborhood groups.
  • Implement new programs and initiatives aimed at advancing community development.
  • Serve as a vital member of the City's leadership team, reporting directly to the City Manager.
  • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate the programs and activities of various divisions within the Community Development Department, including Building Regulations, Code Enforcement, Planning & Zoning, and Neighborhood Impact.
  • Other duties as assigned.

     

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business management, economic and community development, planning, construction management, or a related field.

Thorough experience in development-related programs, including administrative experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to empower and motivate staff.

Excellent analytical abilities to address complex issues and evaluate alternative solutions.

In-depth knowledge of local government principles, practices, and municipal structures processes.

Familiarity with trends in local government planning, zoning, code enforcement, and related matters.

Proven track record of budget preparation and control.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to make presentations to diverse audiences.
