Job Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill an extra help position (no benefits - retirement only) working 25-30 hours per week.

This position supports probation staff work. Monitors, tracks and advocates for youth in all units of Juvenile Court operations. Work involves making contacts with youth, parents, schools, agencies, and other parties to monitor and encourage compliance with the terms and conditions imposed by the Court and providing programming instruction for youth.

The work is performed under the guidance and supervision of a Juvenile Court Probation Counselor. Incumbents may be assigned to any work unit of the Juvenile Court Services department with some restriction for presenting in court.

Examples of Duties

  • • Interview all parties involved to gather information regarding such events as criminal history, daily activity, or placement of youth.

    • Bring significant information regarding the case to the Probation Counselor’s attention.

    • Encourage compliance by all parties; inform Probation Counselor of non-compliance with court-ordered conditions.

    • Follow protocol for specific tracking hardware when performing electronic monitoring duties.

    • Write detailed case notes and other required documentation or reports.

    • Assist or occasionally lead youth classes. These classes may include evidence based programming, girls groups, life skills, GED support, tutoring, and/or health education.

    • Follow protocols for basic workplace safety practices and procedures when overseeing youth to ensure safety on volunteer job sites and provide information to the Probation Counselor when disciplinary measures need to be taken.

    • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • • High School Diploma

    • One (1) year of education and/or experience performing duties that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License or have the ability to provide suitable transportation which is approved by the County.

    • Applicants selected must successfully pass a criminal background check.

    • Knowledge of the Juvenile Court and the processes in the designated area of assignment.

    • Able to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with youth and their parents, co-workers, attorneys, and the Courts. Ability to write clear and concise notes and reports.

    • Able to use tact, discretion and courtesy to gain the cooperation of others.

    • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, youth and family members, social service providers, educators, counselors, and diverse members of the public.

    • Able to understand, interpret and appropriately apply laws, rules, regulations, procedures, pertinent to area of assignment.

    • Able to defuse and control problem situations.
