South Bend Empowerment Zone Title 1 Intervention Specialist in South Bend, Indiana

Salary Range: Teacher Contract Contract Length: Teacher Contract Immediate Supervisor: Director of Title 1/ Building Principal Basic Function: Provides intervention support to Title I identified students at risk of failing or who are failing in reading, and/or math at least 90% of the school day. Works with struggling students during the 8-Step Success period. Assist and support colleagues in the implementation of curriculum, and instruction at the building level by sharing proven instructional techniques and materials. Works with Title I Coach to manage and evaluate the school’s reading, language arts, and math program to ensure the highest level of effective instruction and to improve students’ reading, language arts, writing, math, problem solving, and communication skills. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Title I Intervention Specialist works directly with students providing intervention support 90% of the teaching day. Works with teachers, under the supervision of the principal, to suggest effective and specific teaching methods and ideas. Demonstrate and model exemplary classroom literacy practices and possess an explicit literacy learning theory. Work with teachers individually, in collaborative teams, and/or with departments, providing practical support on a full range of reading, writing, language arts, math, problem solving, and communication strategies. Provide leadership for literacy across the school community. Help strengthen family and school ties by engaging families in literacy instruction. Other duties as assigned based on the guidelines of Title I and Title II. Knowledge & Experience: Five (5) years of effective classroom teaching experience. Thorough and complete knowledge of standards, and content of grade level areas. Ability to organize, plan and implement effective professional development based on the needs of students and teachers. An explicit understanding of curriculum and instruction practices. Knowledge of the collaborative instructional model. Conduct regular meetings with the building principal. Assist in the collaboration of Title I plan. REQUIRED participation in professional development during the school year and summer. Letter of reference from principal supporting the application for a Title I coaching position. Personal Attributes: Above average ability to communicate and work well with others. Personal leadership skills. " />
