    JOB SUMMARY

    The Environmental Engineer analyzes real time bioprocessing facility data, environmental permits, and regulations to identify areas with opportunity to enhance performance of the POET bioprocessing facilities. The Environmental Engineer also supports the engineering and construction functions of POET Bioprocessing, which delivers the best design and technology innovations in the industry. In this role, you will be a key player in continuous improvement.

    DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Provide training and oversight to bioprocessing team members related to environmental Standard Operating Procedures and programs.

  • Engage in developing new environmental work processes or procedures.

  • Collaborate with the environmental key stakeholders to develop operations performance indicators, compliance tracking systems, and other management reporting tools.

  • Obtain new permits for greenfield projects and oversee environmental compliance during the construction process.

  • Obtain permit modifications for changes in bioprocessing facility operations and expansions that provide clear and flexible requirements.

  • Support efforts to develop environmental compliance programs at the bioprocessing facilities, including data collection, testing and reporting requirements.

  • Research applicable federal, state, and local government program requirements. Review bioprocessing facility programs to assure that plants are in compliance with all governmental regulations and that all applicable report templates are current.

  • Gather and interpret data related to environmental compliance, maintain records, train team members, and manage documentation filing systems.

  • Provide support for bioprocessing facilities by completing environmental compliance reviews, plant inspections, and other activities related to continually improving performance.

  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

    STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; preferably in Environmental, Chemical, Civil, or Biosystems Engineering.

  • You have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination. A professional license is a plus.

  • Experience Requirements:

  • Environmental Engineer I:Work experience in evaluating environmental permitting requirements, developing permit applications, regulatory planning, and/or environmental compliance for industrial facilities. Relevant experience through internships, co-ops and educational opportunities are recognized.

  • Environmental Engineer II:Four or more years’ experience in evaluating environmental permitting requirements, developing permit applications, regulatory planning and environmental compliance for industrial facilities. Three or more years’ experience in environmental compliance related to Clean Air Act programs.

  • Senior Environmental Engineer:8 or more years of experience in evaluating environmental permitting, requirements, developing permit applications, regulatory planning and environmental compliance for industrial facilities. 6 or more years’ experience in environmental compliance related to Clean Air Act programs. Demonstrated ability to work highly independently and act as a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Demonstrated ability to act as a team lead for the work group/projects/technical area(s) and facilitate accomplishment of strategic goals for the company.

  • You are a champion of safety and environmental stewardship.

  • You have the technical aptitude to learn and understand the biofuels production processes.

  • You strive for continuous improvement utilizing an environmental management system review cycle.

  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning new programs.

  • You have excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.

  • You establish and foster trusting relations with others at all levels of the organization.

  • You are able to rally the team around POET’s mission and operational goals.

  • You are inquisitive, collaborative, resourceful, agile, self-directed, and determined.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Travel is part of the norm for meetings, site visits/audits, operational support and trainings. Up to 35% of your time may be spent traveling to our bioprocessing facilities, construction projects and to meet with agencies.

  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
