We're looking for a tooling engineer to join the Snap Lab team!

What you’ll do:

• Tooling Design and Development: Collaborate with suppliers on the development of injection molding, stamping, and MIM tooling, including molds, dies, and fixtures, to ensure they meet performance, quality, and cost requirements.

• Tooling validation: Oversee the bring up of the tool to validate tooling designs, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance parameters.

• Material Selection and Process Optimization: Collaborate with product design engineers to select appropriate materials.

• Tooling Maintenance and Repair: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the longevity and reliability of molding tooling. Coordinate repairs and modifications as needed to address wear, damage, or performance issues.

• Quality Assurance: Work closely with quality control teams to establish inspection criteria, perform tooling inspections, and address any deviations or non-conformities to ensure compliance with quality standards.

• Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate tooling designs and manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced performance. Implement innovative solutions to optimize tooling efficiency, cycle times, and part quality.

• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of tooling designs, specifications, maintenance records, and performance data. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of tooling solutions into production processes. Provide technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders as needed.

• Participate in supplier selection and qualification process.

• Travel approximately 50% of time to visit teams, suppliers, or contract manufacturers in mainland China.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tooling design and simulation (e.g. NX, SolidWorks, Moldflow/Moledex3D).

• Strong understanding of molding processes, materials, and tooling principles and hands-on experiences of tooling layout, tooling component design, and structure design.

• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.

• Proficient with GD&T.

• Proficient with statistical tools such as Comparison, ANOVA, DOE, Sampling, SPC, and other Six Sigma techniques.

• Solid project management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple projects. simultaneously and meet deadlines.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and levels of the organization.

• Attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and compliance standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastic Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.

• 10+ years in mold making and tooling design, development, and optimization.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in engineering (mechanical, plastics, electro-mechanical, optical,material science or related field)

• 15+ years in mold making and tooling design, development, and optimization.

• Experience in supplier selection and supplier assessment/audit

• Proficient in written and verbal communication in both Mandarin and English

• Six Sigma green belt or black belt certification
