City of Sheridan Streets Maintenance Technician in Sheridan, Wyoming

The City of Sheridan is actively recruiting a team-oriented and hard-working individual with great communication skills to fill the position of Street Maintenance Technician in the Streets Division.

This position is responsible for operating specialized equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of city streets, storm sewers, and flood control structures. The ideal candidate will have road construction experience; and is required to possess a Wyoming CDL within six months of employment.

Position will be open until filled.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Operates street sweepers for street cleaning.
  • Operates crack sealer and durapatcher
  • Operates an excavator to make utility cuts and to clean ditches.
  • Operates asphalt paver.
  • Operates liquid brine sprayer to pre-treat road surfaces and deicing.
  • Operates front end loader to load trucks and stack material.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies when on-call.
  • Operates dump truck/snow plow (with sander).
  • Operates vactruck/jetter.
  • Clean, maintain, inspect, and repair Storm Water inlets, outlets, ceptors, and related Storm Water infrastructure. Inspect, maintain, and repair Flood Control infrastructure.
  • Operates various hand and power tools in laborer function as needed to complete the job.
  • Utilizes welder, cutting torch, saws, grinders and other related equipment in the fabrication and repair of various infrastructure.
  • Flags and directs traffic at work sites.
  • Sets up street construction signs; ensures that barricades and cones are in place; assigns personnel to direct traffic at construction sites.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures, and practices employed in highway, road, bridge, and street construction, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the safe, effective operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment including welding and cutting torches.
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of sweeper functions, adjustments, and maintenance schedules.
  • Skill in the operation of a variety of street maintenance equipment, including motor graders, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, vacuum trucks, excavators, and street sweepers.
  • Skill in the operation of various hand tools.
  • Skill in the completion of duties with limited supervision.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Street Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES include city ordinances, department and division policies and procedures, relevant state and federal laws, state Department of Transportation regulations, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of related equipment operation duties. Inclement weather conditions and heavy traffic around work sites contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to operate specialized equipment in support of street construction, repair, and maintenance activities. Successful performance helps ensure well-maintained streets, signs, signals and lighting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
  • The work is ypically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must meet all requirements of a Street Maintenance Worker with the addition of a Class B CDL with no air brake restriction, the ability to operate a dump truck/snow plow (with sander) and a Durapatch machine.
