Microsoft Corporation Senior Energy Program Manager, Energy Markets in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation seeks a Senior Energy Program Manager, Energy Markets focused on the Central Washington State Region. The Senior Energy Program Manager, Energy Markets will manage a portfolio of activities to identify and execute on energy supply opportunities, infrastructure development plans, energy rate analysis, and interconnection strategies to support Microsoft’s continued datacenter growth. The Senior Energy Program Manager, Energy Markets will build and lead relationships with utilities and other stakeholders to originate and perform diligence on energy supply opportunities. In addition, the Senior Energy Program Manager, Energy Markets will communicate with cross-functional teams and leadership to influence strategic decision making.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and negotiate datacenter energy supply and interconnection strategies with utilities and third-party energy suppliers in support of Microsoft’s datacenter growth in the Americas.

  • Develop relationships with external suppliers and partners, including electric utilities, economic development groups, regulatory agencies, and technology providers, to deliver solutions for energy supply and infrastructure.

  • Analyze cost of service studies and cost allocations to ensure fair rates for Microsoft’s customer class

  • Work collaboratively with external partners and consultants on market research and analysis.

  • Develop frameworks and analyze data to improve accuracy and speed of decision making.

  • Engage stakeholders with competing objectives to influence project outcomes.

  • Advise cross-functional teams and leadership on risks, priorities, and recommendations.

  • Business travel required (10%-25%, subject to fluctuation with business tempo).

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with or for electric utilities.

  • Experience working with electric power rates.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Electrical Engineer or Professional Engineer is a plus

  • Ability to lead teams of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large datacenter environments.

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
