JOB SUMMARY

The Microbiologist is responsible for the organization and execution of all microbiological sampling and testing. All record maintenance of microbiology testing must be complete, legible and reported on a regular basis. The Microbiologist I is responsible for assisting in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tests samples of raw materials.

  • Tests compounding batch samples and finished product, and releases production batches.

  • Routinely tests water quality in the QC lab as well as the Compounding Department.

  • Pours agar plates, as needed, and prepares other media

  • Evaluates swabbing results of environmental testing such as compounding and filling equipment and tools.

  • Assists in micro testing and staff hygienic standards Standard Operating procedure (SOP).

  • Releases finished good products for distribution.

  • Quarantines out of specification products for additional testing or destruction.

  • Responsible for, but not solely responsible for, verification of line sanitization at the changeover, and tank sanitization in compounding.

  • Verifies all cleaning and sanitization procedures.

  • Accurately documents and records microbiology testing results and reports results in a timely manner to the QC Supervisor and Quality Manager.

  • Conducts preservative challenge testing as needed.

  • Assists in problem-solving and provides root cause analysis.

  • Keeps a clean and safe lab environment.

  • Complies with all Good Manufacturing Practices as outlined by G&S and governmental institutions.

  • Help with benchwork/lab batch making when required.

  • Assists with other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

BS in microbiology or related biological scientific field required.

Experience

1-3 years experience benchtop experience in an FDA regulated industry.

Skills

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and professional interactive skills are necessary to perform at a high degree of proficiency.

  • Ability to operate computerized lab equipment and maintain accurate data/records.

  • Ability to competently prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Detail Oriented - Attention to details and accuracy.

  • Team-oriented and able to successfully work independently or in a collaborative/group setting.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and the ability to learn new software quickly.

  • Outstanding skills in mathematics.
