Statement of Job:

The University of Southern Maine’s Department of Biological Sciences invites applicants for part-time faculty positions to teach undergraduate courses for our Fall 2024 Semester beginning September 3, 2024.

Courses to be taught include:

Biological Principles I: Cell Biology (BIO 105) – this course is an introduction to the scientific principles of molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics. This course meets Monday and Wednesday, 3:30 – 4:45PM on the Portland Campus. This is an in-person course.

Genetics (BIO 201) – this course studies the organization, transmission and expression of genes and genomes. This course meets Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30 – 4:45PM on the Portland Campus. This is an in-person course.

USM’s Department of Biological Sciences (https://usm.maine.edu/department-biological-sciences/) offers undergraduate degree programs with tracks in general biology, human biology, biotechnology, and teacher certification, including a graduate degree. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in biology, health professions, or related field.

  • Previous teaching experience in relevant topics is strongly preferred.
