Salary Grade: T23 Learnmoreaboutthe"T"salary structure here: Job Summary: Temple University is seeking a full-time skilled Machinist for the College of Science and Technology's research and technical support facility on Temple's Main Campus. The shop fabricates 'one of a kind' custom parts and modifies existing apparatus for research and instructional use within the College. The Machinist supports CST's research and instructional needs to assemble, repair, and fabricate machine components parts needed for labs and instructional purposes using operating mechanical equipment. Consults with faculty members, students and staff based on agreed-upon technical drawings, including ordering raw materials. The Machinist uses physical and electronic blueprints and sketches to ensure the finished product's properly meet design dimensions and tolerance levels. Suggests fabrication techniques, including material choices most appropriate to the design criteria that research faculty and graduate students require. Manages and oversees student workers and student shop users. Tracks and logs billable hours on a monthly basis.Performs other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions of Position Designs and builds machinery, parts and experimental equipment required for undergraduate and research laboratories along with facilities and outside customers. Operates and maintains assorted mills, lathes, surface grinders and sheet metal fabrication. Produces complex machine parts, fixtures, tests, specimens, and experimental apparatus using mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, various saws and related machine shop equipment. Programs and operates a Hass milling machine, AXYZ router, program retrofit manual lathe equipped with Anilam controls Machines and fabricates components for other units at Temple University as needed, e.g. Central Facilities and College of Engineering. Prepares invoices/billing to the CST Finance Office Performs TIG/MIG welding, brazing, and soldering tasks in accordance with machine repairs or laboratory apparatus construction. Directs discussion of needs for CST research programs with CST faculty members. Communicates with and trains graduate students and postdocs. Orders raw materials and tools. Builds components according to agreed-upon blueprint specifications. Creates and Assembles machining components in CST research labs. Required Education & Experience: Minimum five years machine shop of experience operating and maintaining standard machine shop equipment. Experience with CNC programming software/setup. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
