LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Central Service Worker 2.

Starting rate of pay is $14.03 per hour. Rate of pay will depend on applicant's qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.

This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of experience in central service work or housekeeping in a healthcare setting.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Function of Work:

To provide services, as well as to supply, process, maintain, and distribute medical supplies and equipment throughout state health care facilities.

Level of Work:

Experienced.

Supervision Received:

General from a Central Service Supervisor or unit manager such as; a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse--Licensed.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Location of Work:

State Health Care Facilities statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Central Service Worker 1 by the presence of journeyman level responsibilities.

Differs from Central Service Supervisor by the absence of supervisory responsibilities.

Examples of Work

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

May be assigned supervisory duties in absence of the supervisor.

Posts and records receipt of stock and/or amount of inventory on hand.

Checks equipment in and out; cleans, decontaminates, and tests for reuse. Notifies supervisor of broken, inoperable, or malfunctioning equipment.

Operates the steam autoclave and Gas (ETO) Sterilizer.

Prepares and keeps inventory/records (manual or computerized) of supplies and equipment.

May use power truck.

Stores, issues, and delivers medical supplies and equipment.

Stocks shelves, pulls medical supplies, and issues equipment.

Assists in inventories.

Collects, cleans, sorts, stores, issues, and delivers trays and supplies throughout the hospital.

Assembles medical instruments and supplies into trays for distribution throughout the facility.

Reports breakage and missing instruments, supplies, and equipment to supervisor.

Learns all facets of processing instruments and equipment for sterilization.

May provide guidance to lower level Central Service Workers.

Assembles trays and packages linen for sterilization with supervision.

Prepares packs of supplies, instruments, dressings, and treatment trays; wraps, labels, and seals packs according to established standards.

Stocks and sets up emergency crash carts or trays with appropriate supplies and equipment.

Receives instruction and training in regulations regarding infectious control and specialized cleaning chemicals.

Cleans (scrubs and washes) surgical instruments, containers, and equipment.

Sterilizes instruments, equipment, supplies, surgical linens, surgical packs, and treatment trays using autoclave, sterilizer, and/or antiseptic solutions.

Operates specialized sterilization equipment and machines, e.g., steam autoclave, washer/decontaminator, or gas (ETO) sterilizer.

Attends mandatory in-service training.

May be required to work shift work.
