Craven County Schools Custodian Supervisor III in New Bern, North Carolina

Position: Custodian Supervisor III Reports to:Director of Facility Support Services Terms of Employment: 12 months Pay Grade: 60 Pay Range: $2,192.33 - $3,688.13 FLSA Status: Non-exempt


Nature of Work The role of the Custodial Supervisor is to assist in the management and supervision of the daily operations of the districts custodial staff. The Custodial Supervisor will assure efficient operations meet the needs of school staff and the public. This position has a significant amount of contact with people, requiring public and human relations skills, flexibility of nature and effective oral and written communication skills. This position requires the use of independent judgment to deal with a variety of unanticipated problems and concerns. The Custodial Supervisor works under the direction of Director of Facility Support Services. Education and Experience A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in custodial work and leadership is preferred. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

  • Highly knowledgeable in the use of all custodial equipment including, but not limited to automatic scrubbers, burnishers, buffers and vacuum cleaners.
  • Remains competent and current with job expectations by attending training with vendors as new products/equipment is implemented.
  • Explains and/or demonstrates work procedures to custodians and other employees.
  • Provides in-service training for custodians and other employees.
  • Plans work schedules. Assigns custodians to work areas and duties.
  • Makes rounds to determine if work stations are manned.
  • Inspects work of custodians, ensures quality of custodial tasks and provides corrective feedback.
  • Directs correction of deficiencies discovered during inspections.
  • Maintains simple clerical records of supplies and personnel information.
  • Notes needs to repair or replace equipment and submits notice to supervisor.
  • Requisitions cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Issues cleaning supplies and materials to custodians.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of custodial work and associated supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of office repairs and maintenance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead training for custodial staff.
  • Ability to supervise other custodians.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with school personnel including, but not limited to principals, teachers and other school staff.
  • Ability to estimate long-range requirements for custodial personnel, supplies, materials, and equipment.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Employee is regularly required to reach with hands and the ability to climb a ladder.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds.
