Job ID361008 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilySupplemental Employee Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code0001 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Responsibilities Assisting Turfgrass Researchers, Graduate Students, Managers and Educators in the preparation, implementation and management of turfgrass research, breeding and educational materials in the field, greenhouses, growth chambers and laboratories. Position #1 - This position will assist with implementation and management of research conducted by turfgrass research program including: plot layout; treatment calculations, measurements and applications; site preparation for new trials; and maintenance and propagation of breeding material in greenhouses, coolers and growth chambers. This position will also include working outside in all weather conditions outside to help maintain the turfgrass research facility, research plots, and non-research areas including: mowing, weed whipping, aerating, watering, irrigation system maintenance, weeding, seeding, harvesting and cleaning seed, and maintaining the cleanliness of the equipment used. Position duties may also include working in the plant growth facilities performing such tasks as watering, clipping, weeding, transplanting and maintaining a clean facility. The position duties may also entail assisting graduate students and scientists with data collection or collecting data on research projects independently. Data collection may be on or off campus depending on the project. Position #2 - This position will assist in metabalomics research being conducted by the University of Minnesota Turfgrass group. Tasks may include sample growth, harvest and preparation for sample along with other duties deemed necessary by the lead researcher. This position will also carry out a fine fescue drought management study on the effect of mowing. Tasks for the is study will include plot maintenance such as mowing, irrigation and nutrient application and data collection before, during and after the drought. Familiarity with grass species, drought experiments and data collection is important for this position. This position requires work outside in various weather conditions and the ability to work independently and be self- motivated.
