Operates and maintains densitometer. Interacts with patients, conducts testing, analyzes data, and produces data reports. Responsible for quality control testing and correspondence related to laboratory functions. Conducts research procedures, performs record keeping for research and radiation safety. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

  • Generates quality control records daily in order to maintain CLIA and state radiation safety certification.

  • Prepares patients for procedures by explaining procedure processes, answering patient questions and coordinating schedule issues.

  • Performs scans, reviews findings to determine appropriate tests and recommends alternative scan sites.

  • Oversees lab operation and maintenance of densitometer, computer equipment and patient records. Works with company trainers and repair personnel regarding equipment and software problems.

  • Prepares and submits bills to patient billing office.

  • Communicates with university and outside physicians regarding capabilities of equipment, reports, etc.

  • Makes recommendations to investigators concerning the proper use of densitometry for their studies.

  • Coordinates with pharmaceutical companies on the specifics of protocols and recordkeeping. Meets with investigators, company monitors, etc.

  • Conducts scans using the knowledge and performance of systematic deviations from established clinical protocols.

  • Maintains accurate and complete research records.

  • Ensures the proper maintenance and cleanliness of the laboratory; maintains stocks and supplies.

  • Submits raw data to physicians for interpretation.

  • Assists with clinic activities such as transferring reports to medical records, responding to patient questions, and assisting research nurses and study coordinators with scheduling and performance of research densitometry studies.

Qualifications

Qualifications Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

  • One of the following

  • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.

  • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Practical Technician, with a specialty in Bone Densitometry, in the State of Utah.

* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners and behavioral health patients.
