Job Description

Our Ramp Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities on the airport ramp, ensuring efficient and safe handling of aircraft and ground services. This role involves supervising ramp personnel, managing the loading and unloading of baggage and cargo, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational procedures. You will also communicate with flight crews, ground staff, and operations control to coordinate timely aircraft turnarounds. Additionally, this position requires quick decision-making and problem-solving skills, especially in fast-paced and challenging situations.

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK AS A RAMP LEAD

  • You like working as a team, toward a common goal

  • Ensure Ramp Agents sign appropriate timesheets and work in designated areas

  • Monitor employees to ensure safe working environment

  • Communicate with Station Management regarding staffing, scheduling, procedures and any other pressing issues

  • Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations and guidelines, including overseeing the safe and legal operation of airport vehicles, equipment, and personnel involved in airside and landside operations

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify adherence to DOT standards, including reviewing maintenance records, driver qualifications, and safety procedures, and provide training and updates to staff on changes in DOT regulations

  • Guide inbound/outbound aircraft to and from gate without damage or injury

  • Safely lift, unload, load and transport baggage, mail and cargo to and from aircraft and airport

  • Protect baggage and other equipment from damage, loss and weather conditions

  • You have a great attention to detail

  • You enjoy working with a team or individually to accomplish your tasks

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Like to build long term relationships with your customers

  • Physical activity may include:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift 70 pounds or more

  • Be able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms generated by terminal environment

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years old

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, to include documents

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ramp operations or a similar role in the aviation industry

  • Appropriate DOT license

  • Proven leadership and team management skills

  • Strong knowledge of ramp procedures, safety regulations, and airport operations

  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and tablets

  • Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

  • Ability to pass a drug screen

  • Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)
