What you will do

As Senior Systems Design Engineer within the Volvo Autonomous Solutions team, you will be a key contributor to the activities related to the development of the electronic systems within our Hub-to-Hub autonomous vehicle projects. You will work in a global, cross functional, cross organizational team within Volvo and will have active involvement with world class technology partners, all with the objective to develop and deliver the Volvo Hub to Hub Autonomous Driving Truck.

You will be responsible for:

• Actively contributing to the systems engineering solution development activities in complex vehicle automation projects.

• Collaborating with associated technology teams, component owners, internal and external solution providers, and product management to gather pertinent inputs related to ongoing development activities.

• Breaking down and balancing of input requirements, conduct feasibility studies, evaluate different design options, considering functional and non-functional requirements, formulating and proposing system design concepts for vehicle functions related to area of responsibility.

• Describing the solutions and elaborating how they will affect the vehicles systems. Creating and maintain detailed technical documentation of the approved concepts agreed for systems implementation.

• Participating in specification implementation and verification loops to secure system aspects of the solution. Secure that system and non-functional requirements are correctly implemented.

• Participating in design reviews and provide technical expertise to support development of innovative and secure solutions. Secure quality and readiness of solutions before release.

• Developing influence and working confidently within the broader Volvo Group network.

Who are you?

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in electronics, software, computer engineering, or similar.

• 5+ years of experience within commercial vehicle or automotive product development, with strong background on designing electrical / electronic system solutions

• Deep understanding of the EE systems of a vehicle and it’s sub-systems

• Experience in developing distributed automotive electrical and electronic systems, preferably with a combination of functional, system, hardware and software development for embedded systems.

• Knowledge of electronic components commonly used in vehicle automation systems, including cameras, radars, lidars, etc.

• Knowledge of commercial vehicle automotive communication protocols and technologies, such as CAN, LIN, SAE-J1939, Ethernet, etc.

• Good understanding of ISO 26262 and its application

• Experience working in an environment of global / local organization with cross functional interaction

• Experience in Agile way of working and SAFe, as well as good understanding of project operations

• A team player and have an analytic mindset of a true problem solver.

• Deep knowledge in electrical and electronic systems, also building a broader knowledge of the overall automated vehicle.

• You love to understand how things work and dedicate yourself to proposing the best system solutions to fulfill customer needs.
