Overview

The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for preparing technical and clerical tasks associated with the labeling and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Technician will also play an integral role in the inventory and quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules the preparation of sterile admixtures and home medical equipment orders

  • Conducts calculations on product preparation and obtains validation from the Pharmacist before compounding/mixing.

  • Compounds sterile admixtures, non-admixtures, antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration, and narcotic analgesics

  • Prepares labels, prescriptions, and compounding worksheets to keep track of product lot numbers, expiration dates, and batch records

  • Ensures room areas and related equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained in compliance with company policies and USP 797 and USP 800 standards

  • Documents all activities on the appropriate logs and records

  • Obtains supply inventories from patients and communicates information obtained to the Pharmacist as required

  • Participates in branch management, department and intra-departmental meetings as well as quality improvement activities

  • Adheres to all accreditation, OSHA, FDA, state, local and federal regulations and standards relevant to infusion pharmacy and home medical equipment

Qualifications

  • Completed Pharmacy Technician training program; IV Certification preferred

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician License

  • One or more years of related pharmacy involvement in a home care setting

  • One year of experience with aseptic preparation of infusion-related pharmaceuticals in a hospital or home infusion environment

  • Knowledge of drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use, and aseptic techniques

  • Effective analytical, time management, and communication skills
