JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:Route Driver

Reports to: Fleet and Facilities Manager

Job Summary:

The Route Driver is responsible for timely and accurate delivery of product from the warehouse to the end users (restaurants, seafood markets, and distributors) for assigned route. Duties include handling and reconciling daily paperwork related to the deliveries and providing quality service to customers.

Essential Job Functions:

Maintains the proper product temperature (proper temperature settings for truck body and quantity of ice to protect product quality and safety).

Delivers product to customers on assigned route in a timely and accurate manner.

Provides quality service to customers at time of delivery, answering questions about product and resolving paperwork discrepancies.

Collects payments from customers, calculating on-the-spot adjustment of invoices as needed.

Verifies that product matches paperwork and loads product into the delivery truck in the morning (product may be loaded onto truck by warehouse staff at some locations and for some routes).

Submits accurate and organized paperwork at the end of the day.

Other Responsibilities:

Conducts pre-trip safety inspection of truck.

Maintains cleanliness of truck in both cab and product transport areas.

Handles cash.

Communicates internally with the Fleet and Facilities Manager and/or Operations Manager, credit department, administrative and plant employees.

Interacts externally with customers, DOT, state marine resources agencies, and other members of the public.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Solid communication skills in English (written and verbal).

Proficiency in basic math skills (addition, subtraction and multiplication).

Valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.

Meet all physical requirements to successfully obtain a DOT Health Card (if applicable).

Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.

Work Environment

This position is performed in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Driver often deals with wet conditions resulting from ice melt from product and from washing out truck at end of the day. Requires tolerance of moderate to loud noise levels that accompany work in facilities/warehouses, loading docks, and seafood markets/restaurants.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical requirements tied to loading, transporting and delivering product include ability to:

Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, and reach above shoulders.

Ability to operate vehicle and utilize a 2-wheel hand truck.

Must be able to see and hear.
