WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY Archivist in Dayton, Ohio

Job Purposes: Provide students, faculty, staff, and researchers with access to historical materials by managing and providing reference services in manuscript collections, local government records, and university records. Manage all media reproduction requests, including use agreements, rights, and fees. Responsible for increasing and maintaining the discovery of the library's special collections to support the learning, teaching, and research of staff, faculty, and students. Nurture new and existing relationships with the campus and the community by developing, coordinating, and participating in departmental outreach activities, such as class instruction sessions, tours, exhibits, presentations, and social media.

Essential Functions and percent of time:

45% Reference Services

  • Manage reference services for Special Collections and Archives.
  • Provide research and reference services for students, faculty, staff, and other researchers, both in-person and remotely.
  • Instruct researchers in the use of collections and assist in locating the resources they need.
  • Provide service to researchers requesting audio/visual and photographic reproductions of archival material, including researching and locating materials, requesting invoices, preparing use agreements for rights management, delivering reproductions, and tracking requests.
  • Conduct research consultations and/or participate in reference requests with community researchers, faculty, staff, and students on occasion
  • Record monthly reference and media request statistics.

30% Outreach

  • Develop outreach, orientation, and instruction programs for Wright State students, faculty, and staff to increase the use of and exposure to primary sources for teaching, learning, and research.
  • Coordinate and develop community outreach activities including conducting tours of the facility; participation in the planning, preparation, and staffing of departmental special events; prepare and give presentations about the archives and its resources; and designing and installing exhibits/displays.
  • Nurture new and existing relationships with campus and the community.
  • Serve as liaison to the National Aviation Heritage Alliance Communicators Council, the Air Force Museum Foundation, and other community partners.

10% Coordinate Work of Student

  • Oversee, coordinate, and prioritize the day-to-day work of undergraduate and graduate student employees, interns, and capstone students.
  • Direct student projects and experiential learning activities within the department.

10% Social Media

  • Coordinate Special Collections and Archives social media channels and serve as a member of the University Libraries Marketing Team.

5% Other Related Duties

  • Participate in professional development and continuing education endeavors for professional and personal growth.
  • Engage in service opportunities for the archival profession, university, and local community.
  • Participate in the development and performance of the University Libraries' programs, policies, procedures, projects, teams, and committees, including other duties as assigned.
