Job Summary

Do you have a deep appreciation for parks, geology, natural history, and a passion for educating others? If this sounds like you, apply for this wonderful position at the Paint Mines Interpretive Park. Your days will be spent hiking outside, guiding group tours, and encouraging visitors to respect the park by protecting it for future generations.

This position is located at the Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, CO

Hiring Range: $15.75 - $18.00 (commensurate with qualifications)

This position has an anticipated work schedule of Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Assists in providing interpretive services within the Paint Mines Interpretive Park to promote public understanding and appreciation of natural areas; ensures visitors adhere to park regulations and performs light maintenance.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides visitors with accurate and concise information regarding the Paint Mines natural and cultural history, resource sensitivity, trail locations and conditions, park rules and regulations, and overall orientation.

  • Leads and assists with staff or volunteer-led interpretive programs and presentations.

  • Assists with various special projects/events on the behalf of the Recreation & Cultural Services Division.

  • Performs light maintenance including grounds and building maintenance, trash collection, paint removal, and sign replacement.

  • Oversee donation collection process

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of regional natural and cultural history preferred.

  • Strong professional commitment to the position.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the general public.

  • Ability to stimulate interest and lead people in various interpretive activities.

  • Ability to effectively communicate park rules to visitors to minimize damage to trails, formations, and other sensitive areas.

  • Ability to use various computer programs, including word processing, databases, and desktop publishing software; Microsoft Office proficiency preferred.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Work Conditions

Duties are performed mainly outside in the field in various weather conditions; some travel required. Field work may involve transverse/negotiating developed terrain/trails and undeveloped, rugged terrain. Requires physical effort to perform frequent lifting, bending and climbing; must be able to safely lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds. This is a part-time position regularly working up to 25 hours per week.
