Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Utility Maintenance Person - System Utility Maintenance Person in Cleveland, Ohio

Description JOB SUMMARY This is a training position pursuant to achieving the qualifications as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Maintenance Training Program guidelines to prepare the candidate to bid on the Systems Utility Maintenance Person (SUMP) position. Under general supervision, performs skilled work in maintaining and repairing Sewer District equipment, machinery, facilities and grounds. Works with others in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of Sewer District mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other recording, telemetering and instrumentation devices and equipment. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs any combination of, but not limited to the following duties according to specific departmental guidelines: - Assists in and performs mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work such as installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, modifying, calibrating, and repairing of pumps, motors, motor control centers, motor starters, generators, variable frequency drives (VFDs), actuators, valves, uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), various other instrumentation with associated control loops and other telecommunications, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic and microprocessor-based related equipment. Assists with plumbing, pipefitting, grinding, cutting with torch, welding, installing electrical conduits, pulling wiring, minor fabrication and painting of equipment and process piping. - Operates Sewer District vehicles for the transportation of equipment and tools. - Participates in the Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Program of Sewer District facilities, including the lubrication and inspection of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment. - Assists and performs troubleshooting and analysis of faulty equipment. - Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system and other software applications to input and retrieve information. - Jobs may include a 24-hour call-in during emergency situations. - Assists with traffic control. - Performs general housekeeping. - Responsible for observing safe work practices. - Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Candidate must possess a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent. EXPERIENCE - Candidate must have the following experience in order to qualify for entry into the Maintenance Training Program (MTP) at the third or fourth milestone and will be required to complete an additional 2,000 to 4,000 hours of tracked training: Candidate must possess five (5) years of industrial (a combination of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and/or welding) maintenance experience or related military experience and training. Successful completion of an accredited trade school in the mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation disciplines may be substituted for work experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS - Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District's acceptable guidelines. - A certificate of completion from an Industrial Machinery (Mechanic, Electrician, Instrument Technician) or Millwright (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation) registered apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Labor is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Candidate must possess basic knowledge and skills in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation trades, including inspection and record keeping.
