Ideal candidates will have a background in Mechanical or Controls engineering. Chattanooga is preferred location but able to live anywhere in the TN Valley.

Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for all engineering and technical oversight associated with assigned capital projects developed and

executed by the respective department within GPFS. Duties include development of engineering contracts, control of project

design, compliance with TVA & industry standards, QA/QC, and management of engineering budgets & schedules. For assigned

projects, this position leads engineering for scoping, study, design, procurement, construction, and ensures replication of

engineering solutions. This role establishes and communicates engineering priorities to contract partners, project team members,

and management. It also provides leadership and technical direction to the project design and execution team while ensuring

quality products from design firms, contractors and OEMs meet or exceed project requirements.

Job Dimensions:

Supervisory Responsibility —Technical oversight and direction of contract partners in the performance of studies, detailed

designs, evaluations, construction drawings, QA plans, etc.

Budget Responsibility —Responsible for design engineering and technical support for multiple Coal, Gas, and Hydro capital

projects. Individual projects could be in excess of $1B for the total project, this position could be responsible for budgets totaling

up to $300 million annually, while providing support to multiple projects simultaneously

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Decision making authority and accountability to translate the goals and strategies of TVA into specific project engineering and

work plan activities while providing leadership and technical direction to the project team.

  1. Resolves conflicts and gains consensus between vendors, partners, engineering, construction and management for projects.

  2. Lead for studies and designs, including drawings, engineering specifications, calculations, purchasing requisitions, bills of

materials, procurement specifications, QA/QC plans, factory acceptance, etc.

  1. Provide technical direction for mechanical, electrical, I&C, civil, and structural engineering for project teams implementing

various multi-disciplined projects with minimal assistance from others.

  1. Management and accountability of project engineering budgets, forecasts, and schedules to support project completion within

pre-established targets to include metrics for safety, quality, and environmental goals.

  1. Provides engineering oversight and governance of engineered equipment suppliers including purchasing components

  2. Ensure product quality from contract engineering and construction partners, and compliance with TVA processes, procedures,

and standards associated with project design and associated documentation.

  1. Management, tracking, control and evaluation of engineering performance for continuous improvement and innovation through

engineering contracts to execute engineering for projects utilizing matrix teams.

  1. Translate goals and strategies into specific initiatives and work plan activities.

  2. Supports all project engineering and technical functions, including development, design, equipment selection, procurement,

project management, , and construction management

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education -BS Degree in engineering from an accredited university

Experience -Must have a minimum of 8 or more years or experience in utility engineering and technical support functions.Experience with utility project management, engineering, environmental, operational practices, construction, health & safety, project planning & execution, and contract development & management is also required.

Certification/License, etc.- Professional engineering license and project management certification are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities -Must have the ability to analyze complex technical and managerial problems to determine optimal solutions. Must have strong understanding of multi-discipline engineering roles to facilitate effective team work and collaboration to achieve results. Must demonstrate sound judgment, decision making, organizational, interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills as a leader on project teams. Must have a thorough understanding of procurement, contract management, processes & procedures, and familiar with utility engineering standards
