Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), an LLC of Bechtel, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as anAssociate Engineering & Projects Coordinatorto join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The selected candidate will provide short and long-term planning of activities throughout the Underground. The Associate Engineering Coordinator reports to the Engineering and Projects Coordinator.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with Waste Handling, Radiological Controls, Hoisting, Shaft Maintenance, Outage Planning, Surface & Underground Facility Operations and Maintenance management to ensure underground planning activities are aligned with site priorities.

  • Work closely with Engineering and projects coordinator and site Engineering department to plan mining activities including underground infrastructure.

  • Provide and oversee plan performance to production team.

  • Provide planning of Long Maintenance Activities and update Outage Planning on work progress.

  • Provide future infrastructure needs and planning integration among supporting organizations for development of installations, refurbishments, or rehabilitation of infrastructure in areas identified.

  • Provide Project Controls with schedules of activities, complete estimates of time/material costs and durations for activities.

  • Lead coordination efforts with Engineering and Operations for future plant modifications and expansion.

  • Serve as a key interface for daily, weekly, maintenance outages and project work activities.

  • Ensure materials for infrastructure expansion and refurbishment are planned and procured in advance for scheduled completion time.

  • Provide limited procurement ability to assist with acquiring tools, equipment, and materials needed for Underground Operations.

  • Be able to pass a pulmonary function test to qualify to wear and work in a respirator.

Exempt Salary Grade (34-37)

Minimum Requirements:These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.

  • Bachelor's Degree plus twenty (20) years working experience, or

  • Associates Degree plus twenty-four (24) years working experience, or

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency plus twenty-eight (28) years working experience is required.

  • Must have at least five (5) years- experience in underground mining operations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience in planning and work control

  • Budget management experience.

  • Experience with P6.

  • Current STR or ability to become and STR quickly.
