Position Summary:

The University at Buffalo, a top 40 public research university and the State University of NY’s flagship university, is searching for a Database Administrator in Enterprise Application Services (https://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/about/our-people/vpcio/units/eas.html) . This position is an important role working with leading edge technology in one of the largest and most progressive IT organizations in Western NY.

In this role you will:

  • Implement, modify and maintain enterprise level databases as an application level Database Administrator.

  • Work closely with Database Analyst team members and the infrastructure team’s physical level Database Analyst’s.

  • Develop and coordinate backup and recovery strategies ensuring stability and integrity.

  • Perform maintenance activities including job scheduling, database tuning, schema and model design, user account management, testing and data refreshing in lower environments as required.

  • Develop, implement and document standards and procedures.

  • Assist with query performance analysis and optimization.

  • Assist with vendor product database installation adhering to local standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience or master’s degree or professional certification with 1 years of experience

  • Experience in the Information Systems field, the experience should encompass relevant aspects of implementing database systems in support of reporting and application development and should include experience in a comparable environment

  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting experience

  • Project management, communication and problem-solving skills, and eagerness to learn new technologies and techniques

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others having diverse skill levels and varying backgrounds

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field

  • Experience with advanced, large scale database systems

  • Experience in a university environment

  • Experience with one or more of the following database systems: Oracle, MS SQL , MySQL

  • Experience with operating database systems in a Unix/Linux environment

  • Understanding and experience with contemporary database tools and techniques
