Brief Position Overview
This position resides at the MSU Powell County Extension Office in Deer Lodge, Montana
The primary duty for County/Tribal Faculty is to assess local community needs, then to develop, implement, and evaluate Extension programming to meet those needs. The focus of this position is to provide leadership for MSU Extension Community Development and 4-H Youth Development education programs in Powell County. The successful candidate will plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs to enhance community and economic well-being, and 4-H Youth Development programming for individuals and families in Powell County. Specific areas of emphasis may include building community leadership capacity, business retention and recruitment, work toward enhancing economic vitality, and enhancing 4-H Youth Development opportunities for members, parents, and volunteers.
This position will conduct Extension education programming to enhance the economic, community, and leadership capacities of the communities of Powell County including Deer Lodge, Avon, Elliston, Garrison, Gold Creek, Helmville, and Ovando. The person in this position must enhance community vitality through education which may include enhancing existing business success; supporting business recruitment and retention; and assisting entrepreneurs considering new business opportunities in Powell County. Additionally, this position will work with 4-H Youth Development members, volunteers, and parents to enhance youth development opportunities in Powell County. To accomplish these goals, synergistic partnerships will be developed with communities, government agencies, boards, committees, citizen-led groups, and private organizations.
The MSU Extension Powell County Office also has a full-time administrative professional.

Salary MSU Extension is committed to equitable salaries. Beginning salaries are determined by an analysis of education and previous experience. Minimum base salary with Bachelor’s degree is $46,325. Minimum base salary with Master’s degree is $53,325.

General Statement

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership to local Extension staff and stakeholder groups to conduct continuous needs assessments with Community Development and 4-H Youth Development communities in Powell County.
Plan, implement, and evaluate research based educational programming to affect positive Community Development and 4-H Youth Development focused impacts.
Provide leadership and educational experiences for Powell County 4-H Youth Development Program volunteers.
Strengthen the impact and scope of MSU Extension Community Development and 4-H Youth Development programs in Powell County.
Embrace a team approach to planning, developing, and implementing the overall MSU Extension program in Powell County.
Practice professional development to continually improve expertise in delivering MSU Extension programs.
Cooperate with partner agencies and other groups that support Youth Development and Community Development.
Position requires frequent night and weekend work, extensive reading, frequent travel throughout the county, and occasional travel throughout the state of Montana. Position also requires using a variety of teaching methods and operating a variety of demonstration and educational equipment.
Will possess, or be able to obtain, a Montana driver’s license or have other means of reliable transportation.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Economic and/or Community Development, Business, Planning, Public Administration, Youth Development, or related fields.
Demonstrated ability to lead groups; assess community needs; and develop, organize, plan, teach, and evaluate effective programs.
Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and provide professional development to volunteers.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership to Extension programming relating to volunteers and youth.
Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory and its application to community-based education and outreach.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Master’s degree in Economic and/or Community Development, Business, Planning, Public Administration, 4-H Youth Development, or related fields, and/or relevant work experience.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and help them find constructive solutions to locally identified issues.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
This position, if filled at the Master’s degree level, will be tenure-track. A successful candidate without a Master’s degree will be required to complete their Master’s degree, in a program area relevant to their Extension position, within six (6) years of their start date. Failure to do so may result in termination.
Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points), or have other reliable means of transportation. Must have access to a vehicle to use for work (mileage will be reimbursed), and have minimum vehicle liability insurance. Do NOT send a copy of the driver’s license.
