If you are looking for a new career in patient care, consider applying for a paid program to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. The 40 hours per week paid position consists of 16 hours of class/clinical experience with the remaining 24 hours spent working as a Patient Service Representative in one of our many Medical Practices. If you are accepted in the program, you will be a full-time employee while earning your MA certification.

Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older high school graduate or equivalent

  • Maine Resident

  • Access to a laptop or tablet to bring to class.

  • Pass CASAS (math & reading) assessment post offer. CASAS assessment will be on 6/26/24 and 6/27/24.

  • Willing to work 24 hours per week at a Patient Service Rep while in training.

  • Commit to Northern Light EMMC for 18 months following the transition to full-time Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.

  • Internal employees must be in good standing. Internal applicants will require a manager-to-manager reference if selected for interview.Upon successful completion of the program, after receiving your MA Certification, you will be placed in a full-time CCMA position.Other Information:

  • All training will be in-person at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

  • Class will run the week of July 15, 2024-November 15, 2024

Patient Service Rep I Job Summary:

The Patient Service Representative I is a supporting position and is responsible for a variety of activities related to patient in-take and care. The Patient Services Representative I is generally the first point of contact for patients entering the practice. Activities may include but are not limited to greeting and checking in patients, verifying and updating insurance information and confirming other patient information, scheduling patient appointments, answering phones, updating demographic information, processing referrals, payment collection and posting, charge reconciliation, chart preparation and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form, as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

  • Provides prompt and effective service to internal and external customers.

  • Records, maintains, distributes, and prepares documents or information.

  • Assists with staff education and training as appropriate.

  • Performs general office tasks associated with the operations of department and/or organization.

  • Attends and participates in meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

  • Facilitates functions related to patient accounts. May include payment variance, billing, resolving balances, etc.

  • Works to meet patient's psychological, emotional, or physical needs.

  • Attends education sessions, workshops, and other continuing education opportunities to enhance or gain new skills.

  • Provides coverage for peers, subordinates, and leadership on an as needed basis.

  • Promotes services, disseminates information, and fosters a positive image of the organization in the community.

  • Performs tasks according to established guidelines to ensure quality goals and standards are met.

  • Registers patients for appointments and procedures.

  • Creates and disseminates reports to appropriate personnel.

  • Work with members of the team or department in an effective and efficient manner. Shares knowledge and serves as a resource in a team environment.

  • Leverages software and/or hardware relative to job function.
