Bangor Savings Bank Accountant Analyst II/III in Bangor, Maine
Function: The Accountant Analyst II / III provides comprehensive accounting and analytical support to the overall function of the Accounting Department by independently preparing, analyzing, reviewing and reporting on the Bank, its products and services, and peers. Performs a wide range of highly complex accounting and analytical functions and assures day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives. Is a self-starter and continually seeks and implements efficiencies in processes and provides recommendations for enhancements. Has potential for future supervisory and team building opportunities. Collaborates with employees at all levels of the organization to achieve the objectives set by internal and external customers.
Accountabilities:
Leads the preparation, review and coordination of financial reports to include one or more of the following:
Budgeting/forecasting of the Bank financial statements
Regulatory reporting
Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing and reporting of financial results
Business line and profitability analysis/reporting
Accounting for Bank fixed assets
Accounting for Bank investments
Prepares specialized or highly complex reports, analyses and interpretations in support of various accounting and reporting functions for management and outside agencies, utilizing advanced knowledge and proficiency in accounting practices and principles
Ability to learn and prepare compliance and regulatory oriented filings with FDIC, Federal Reserve Bank, etc. (including but not limited to quarterly Call Report, FR2900, Y-9LP, Summary of Deposits, etc.)
Prepares and distributes various periodic and ad hoc reports as needed and serves as a reviewer of similar work prepared by others within the department
Creates and maintains procedures affecting assigned functions
Solves problems and seeks solutions that streamline processes and enhance accuracy and quality of work; employs technology in daily work to enhance and maximize productivity
Contributes to the preparation of materials for internal and external audit requests. Serves as a resource for auditor questions
Builds relationships and provides ongoing accounting support for colleagues outside the Accounting Department and strives for the highest level of customer service
Ensures compliance with internal accounting policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and state and federal regulations
Stays up to date on industry trends and regulatory changes, utilizes appropriate professional, GAAP, tax and related literature; and communicates and educates the team and Bank colleagues accordingly
Conducts training as needed on system software, and provides learning opportunities and training for department on topics of expertise
Performs reconciliation of selected general ledger accounts, researches and resolves routine/complex exceptions
Performs month-end close process and reporting within established timeframe.
Handles multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing accordingly to manage department/individual needs
Offers interpretation, explanation and guidance of/for the most complex Bank reports and activities
Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of Bank goals
and objectives through a commitment to teamwork
Performs other duties as needed to support the Accounting team and the Bank
Maintains/updates various Accounting Department systems
Serves as a mentor within the Accounting Department by supporting the team and leading by example
Performs review of work prepared by others within the department and the Bank as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area (business, accounting or finance); five plus years of accounting or financial analysis experience preferred
Supervisory experience and team building skills
Month-end close process experience preferred
Strong analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills required
High degree of emotional intelligence and professional maturity
High proficiency with spreadsheets and database management
Solid computer skills with ability to quickly learn multiple software applications
Working knowledge of accounting principles
Strong knowledge of accounting and regulatory principles
Self-motivated and results-oriented with ability to work effectively with limited supervision in a multi-task environment
